Rhinoplasty Is a Facial Contouring Procedure to Shape Your Profile

Also known as a “nose job,” the rhinoplasty procedure will reshape your nasal cartilage and underlying architecture. Your nose will not only be beautiful but also proportional to your face. Dr. Michael Omidi is a double-board certified plastic surgeon with additional training in facial plastic surgery, specifically pertaining to the nose. Though all plastic surgeons are trained in facial surgery, Dr. Omidi strongly believes that the rhinoplasty procedure should be performed by surgeons that primarily focus on the nose. He is a verified rhinoplasty specialist. Compared to other procedures, every rhinoplasty is precise and unique; not every nose looks right on every face. More importantly, correcting a prior rhinoplasty that produced poor results is much more difficult than performing the surgery for the first time.

Dr. Omidi has been performing the rhinoplasty procedure for 17 years; it is the operation in which he specializes.

Dr. Omidi’s Beverly Hills-based practice is a regional leader in facial rejuvenation and profile enhancement. Even in Southern California, where competition among plastic surgeons is nothing short of fierce, Dr. Michael Omidi’s peers and patients alike have repeatedly rated him as the top plastic surgeon on reputable review sites. He was named one of the 10 best rhinoplasty surgeons by Cosmetic Town Journal.  He has been ranked the number one plastic surgeon in Beverly Hills out of 248 by RateMDs for five consecutive years. He utilizes a variety of techniques to treat a number of aesthetic issues. Why should you feel uncomfortable with a prominent bump on your nose or overly wide nostrils, when you can have them corrected?

Dr. Omidi is a double board-certified plastic surgeon who specializes in the precise art and science of rhinoplasty.  For a consultation, please contact our Beverly Hills office. We proudly serve the needs of Los Angeles, Southern California, and beyond. Dr. Omidi also offers virtual consultations

About

A well-executed rhinoplasty is more just than altering a patient’s nose to appear larger or smaller. Dr. Omidi strives to reshape the nose so that it will be attractive and complement its surrounding facial features. The nose must appear beautiful yet natural. It should not appear overly done.

Though many plastic surgeons will defer breathing issues to ENT doctors, Dr. Omidi believes that functional and aesthetic improvements should be performed at the same time. Any obstruction in the nose by a deviated septum or enlarged turbinates will be addressed simultaneously. Often, Dr. Omidi will use the cartilage that is obstructing the nose to reshape the tip instead of discarding it.

Are You the Right Candidate for Rhinoplasty?

A rhinoplasty can address bumps on the dorsum, a non-defined tip or bulbous tip, a droopy or hanging tip, or a broad appearing nose. We often develop asymmetry in the nose from previous fracture or growth of our cartilages as we age. All of these can lead to an undesired appearance of the nose in addition to airway obstruction. During your consultation, Dr. Omidi will carefully explain your options to help you make an informed decision. Even slight, subtle changes to the dimensions of the nose can create a dramatic effect on your appearance.

Private Consultation in Beverly Hills

During the consultation, Dr. Omidi will assess your medical history and discuss aesthetic changes on the nose. He will take pictures and perform a 3-dimensional morph of your nose to show you goals of the rhinoplasty procedure.

Preparation

Prior to undergoing a rhinoplasty, you will need the standard workup depending on your age, which usually includes some blood work and an EKG for patients over the age of 40. You will be advised to stay away from medications that thin your blood and cessation of tobacco products for those that use them. The day before surgery, be sure not to drink or eat after midnight. On the morning of your procedure, avoid wearing makeup or perfume. Dr. Omidi may prescribe medication to mitigate nausea, depending on which level of sedative you are administered.

The Rhinoplasty Procedure

The rhinoplasty procedure takes 1.5 to 2 hours, but it produces results that are truly enduring.

  1. Anesthesia is either performed with general anesthesia or moderate sedation.  You will be completely asleep with both types of anesthesia.
  2. Dr. Michael Omidi will make an incision on the inside rim of your nose to access the cartilages.
  3. He may shape the cartilage and nasal bones to alter the size and shape of your nose.
  4. He may remodel the tip of your nose using tip grafts made of cartilage.

The above guidelines are intended to give you a broad idea of the rhinoplasty procedure, but every patient is unique. Dr. Omidi will tailor the surgery to your goals and anatomy. Please call (310) 281-0155 if you have any questions about your upcoming procedure with Dr. Omidi.

Open Rhinoplasty vs. Closed Rhinoplasty

During your consultation, Dr. Michael Omidi will determine whether you’d benefit from an open or closed rhinoplasty. Dr. Omidi is adept at both techniques and will decide which is best for you during your consultation. Typically, with an open procedure the surgeon has greater control and precision to access the underlying nasal structures. Therefore, it is the procedure of choice for secondary or revision rhinoplasties, significant asymmetry, and poorly supported tips.[2]

A closed rhinoplasty involves incisions made inside the nostrils only. An open rhinoplasty, on the other hand, begins with an incision under the nasal tip, affecting the columella (the band of cartilage between the nostrils). Dr. Omidi then gently lifts the skin to navigate the underlying structures of the nose.

Recovery

Rhinoplasty is performed as an outpatient procedure. In other words, you will be able to return home on the day of your surgery.

  • You should plan on resting during the first day following the procedure with your head elevated and use of cooling gels or ice to minimize swelling.
  • It is natural and normal for some degree of swelling and bruising to appear immediately after the procedure.
  • You may expect to resume your normal activities within one week.
  • You should continue to avoid any contact sports or strenuous activities for at least 3 weeks after surgery.
  • During this period, Dr. Omidi and his staff will follow up to ensure that you are experiencing a smooth recovery.
  • If necessary, Dr. Omidi will prescribe medications to relieve any potential discomfort.
  • Most bruising will resolve 7-10 days after surgery. A majority of the swelling will settle by the 6-week mark, fully concluding within 3 months. The overall shape of the nose will gradually improve over a year.

As swelling subsides, your striking results will continue to emerge. Once your new nose settles, you can expect it to bring you confidence and satisfaction for many years to come.

Take a quick look in the mirror. What do you notice first? The answer is most likely your nose. The nose is the central part of our face. A nose that is too large or asymmetric usually stands out. It often overshadows aesthetically pleasing features such as the eyes and the lips. Correcting the asymmetry and shaping the nose to one that fits the proportions of the face allows your appearance to be harmonious.

Dr. Omidi will help you achieve the ideal nose that you have been seeking. His patient reviews speak for themselves. The doctor is humbled by his patients’ kind words and he is eager to continue providing 5-star service to his Southern California community.
