The body contains many natural substances that promote healing and rejuvenation. However, many of these substances slow in production as we get older, and some areas of the body age more quickly than others.
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections use natural substances from the patient’s body to treat areas of the face that need focused rejuvenation. Long used to help heal injured athletes, PRP injections encourage the body to use its own natural processes to heal areas in need of additional help.
The PRP procedure can fill wrinkles, fine lines, and hollows to produce a more youthful complexion. Learn how it can help you by calling 310-281-0155 to schedule an initial consultation with double board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Michael Omidi today.
How the Procedure Works
Dr. Omidi will begin your PRP treatment by drawing a small amount of blood from your arm. He will then use a machine to separate out the plasma and separate the platelets from the white and red blood cells. Advanced technology performs this action in approximately 20 minutes and then processes the plasma and platelets to produce platelet-rich plasma.
Changing the concentration of platelets in the plasma to be three to four times the normal level gives them more power to rejuvenate the skin, repair damaged tissues, and reverse the signs of aging.
Dr. Omidi will make a small wound and inject the PRP into target areas such as areas of volume loss or wrinkles in the facial skin. This small wound activates the platelets within the PRP to repair the aging or damaged tissues.
Immediately after treatment, you may experience temporary redness and spotting, but you should be ready to go about your daily life by the next day. The results will take some time to become more noticeable. As time passes, the concentrated PRP helps to improve the quality of skin, giving you a more youthful appearance and glow. For younger patients, these changes may become noticeable sooner due to the faster healing process associated with youth.
The Benefits of PRP Injections
Using PRP creates a naturally youthful and vibrant complexion. Those who have acne scars and fine lines can see natural improvements due to the PRP.
This treatment is an excellent option for those who are not interested in or who do not qualify for treatment with BOTOX® Cosmetic or dermal fillers. It also provides highly natural-looking results with smoother skin and a brighter complexion. If desired, PRP can be combined with additional procedures to further enhance the results.
Additional Uses of PRP
PRP has other uses in addition to facial rejuvenation. Many professional athletes use PRP injections to treat injuries such as injured tendons and sprained knees. PRP offers a faster recovery than alternative procedures and therapies, and many patients experience a reduction in pain and thickening cartilage indicative of the healing process. PRP may even help to prevent a need for surgery.
Another use for PRP includes treatment for hair loss, as the essential proteins within PRP stimulate hair growth. Especially when combined with other treatments, PRP may help to reverse hair loss and increase hair fullness.
