About Non-Laser Vein Treatments

Non-laser vein treatments address the appearance of veins around your legs. These treatments avoid the use of laser technology to preserve the health of your existing tissues and muscles, which also allows you to achieve a quicker recovery.

Problematic veins can develop as a result of genetics, aging, hormonal fluctuations, pregnancy, and more. With time, many of these veins can start to become uncomfortable or painful, potentially affecting your quality of life. (1)

Types of Veins

Dr. Omidi can address several different types of veins, most notably spider veins and varicose veins.

  • Spider Veins: Spider veins are clusters of thin, damaged blood vessels that are visible beneath the skin. These veins are primarily a cosmetic concern, but they can occasionally become painful. (2)
  • Varicose Veins: Varicose veins are dilated, twisted, and enlarged veins that primarily appear in the legs. Up to 30% of the population has varicose veins, (1) which often causes a burning and throbbing sensation when standing. (3)

Benefits

There are several benefits of non-laser vein treatments. These include:

  • Clearer Skin: Our vein treatments can effectively treat the appearance of both spider veins and varicose veins, resulting in brighter and smoother skin.
  • Reduced Discomfort: These treatments can each address the painful symptoms that come from twisted or bulging veins.
  • Minimally Invasive Methods: None of our vein treatments requires general anesthesia or linear incisions.
  • Little to No Downtime: You will be able to return to most of your daily activities shortly after treatment, allowing you to address any discomfort without disrupting your daily routine.
  • Permanent Results: Once your veins close and collapse, they cannot reopen. This means you will be able to enjoy your enhanced clarity for years to come.
  • Customized Treatment Plan: Dr. Omidi provides each individual with an individualized treatment plan to account for specific needs and deliver their personal goals.

Preparation

Before your procedure, Dr. Omidi will provide a set of detailed instructions to help you prepare for your non-laser vein treatment. These instructions may vary depending on your exact treatment plan, but they generally include:

  • Discontinue any blood-thinning medications or supplements leading up to your appointment.
  • Avoid using certain skin care products in the treatment area.
  • Stay hydrated and maintain a balanced diet.
  • Wear loose-fitting clothing to your appointment.

Preparation is an essential step of each treatment, no matter how significant or subtle it is. By following each given instruction, you can ensure a smooth recovery and the best possible results.

Available Treatments

ClariVein Treatment

ClariVein is a cutting-edge treatment that can reduce the appearance of your veins with less discomfort than previous options. This treatment uses a thin catheter that eliminates the need for a tumescent anesthetic during your procedure.

When performing this treatment, Dr. Omidi will insert the catheter into your problematic veins. A wire at the top of your catheter will spin against the lining of your veins. As this occurs, it will also administer a sclerosant to chemically irritate the vein lining. (4)

RF Ablation

Radio Frequency Ablation, also known as RFA or RF ablation, is a procedure that uses radiofrequency (RF) waves to seal damaged and problematic veins.

Dr. Omidi will use a catheter to emit RF currents through your affected veins. The energy will heat the walls of your veins, causing them to shrink and close. This seals them from within and directs your blood flow into your healthier veins. With time, your veins will naturally collapse, and your body will reabsorb them.

Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy is an injectable treatment that eliminates the appearance of varicose veins. This treatment consists of injecting a sclerosant, or chemical irritant, into the veins. There are several different sclerosant solutions available on the market, with each one being just as effective and safe as the other.

Dr. Omidi will administer the sclerosants into your veins from largest to smallest, which allows the solution to flow in a downward stream to the other target veins. (5) The sclerosant will then cause the veins to close and collapse, where your body will then reabsorb them naturally.

Microphlebectomy

Microphlebectomy is a minimally invasive procedure that can address large, bulging veins near the surface of your legs. This procedure is also called ambulatory phlebectomy and often treats veins that are too large for sclerotherapy.

Dr. Omidi performs this procedure by making tiny incisions before using a small surgical hook to extract the vein. Once he extracts a small section of the vein, the remaining portions will collapse shortly after.

Recovery

Your recovery timeline can vary depending on the type of treatment you undergo, the number of veins he addresses, as well as your body’s natural healing rate. Generally, you may return to most of your daily activities shortly after your treatment. However, you will need to wear a compression garment around your legs for the first several weeks of your recovery to minimize any additional swelling. You will also need to avoid engaging in any physical or strenuous activities for the first 24-48 hours after treatment.

Dr. Omidi will provide a full set of recovery instructions to help you navigate your recovery. If any questions or concerns arise, we encourage you to contact our team for guidance.

Results

The results of our non-laser vein treatments are gradual, which means you will be able to see the full effects of your treatment develop as your body naturally reabsorbs your veins. How soon you will see a reduction in veins will vary depending on the treatment you undergo, but many patients see results within several weeks.

You will be able to enjoy smoother, clearer, and brighter skin as any darkened or unsightly veins start to disappear. You will also be able to enjoy a reduction in the discomfort or pain your veins cause, allowing you to complete your daily activities with more comfort and ease. The results of our non-laser vein treatments are long-lasting, as your veins cannot return once they seal and your body absorbs them. However, new veins may develop in the future.
