Flankplasty

Conveniently located to serve the areas of Beverly Hills and Greater Los Angeles

A flankplasty is a body contouring procedure that removes excess skin and tissue from around the flanks to restore a more slender and defined appearance.

Many patients struggle to address loose, inelastic skin around their waist, no matter how much they diet or exercise. This skin can detract from the figure they have worked so hard to achieve, and it can also affect their personal comfort and well-being directly. A flankplasty procedure can address each of these concerns and more by removing looseness or laxity, revealing the true sculpt and contours of your natural figure and frame.

Dr. Michael Omidi is a double-board-certified plastic surgeon with more than 20 years of experience in medicine. Dr. Omidi has built a strong reputation across Beverly Hills and the Greater Los Angeles area for his individualized care and natural-looking results. About Flankplasty

Flankplasties are surgical procedures that can eliminate excess skin and tissue from around the flanks and hips, which people also refer to as “love handles.” This procedure specifically addresses the area between the lower ribs and hips, as significant weight changes typically affect this area the most. This can include pregnancy, weight gain, and rapid weight loss–each of which can cause the skin to lose its elasticity.

Dr. Omidi can perform a flankplasty to help you redefine your waistline and create a more streamlined silhouette, allowing you to achieve a figure that reflects your hard-earned efforts and vitality.

Benefits

There are several benefits you may experience when receiving a flankplasty, such as:

  • Elevated Silhouette: Dr. Omidi can remove excess skin and tissue from around your flanks and hips to restore a more defined figure and smoother transition between the torso, flanks, hips, and thighs. (1)
  • Smoother Skin: This procedure can remove loose and lax skin to restore a smoother and tighter look and feel.
  • Lasting Results: The results of a flankplasty can last for several years, especially when you maintain a stable weight and a healthy lifestyle.
  • Alleviated Discomfort: Removing large amounts of excess skin can reduce any irritation from chafing or rubbing skin, as well as make it easier for you to perform more physically demanding tasks or activities. (2)
  • Elevated Confidence: Addressing your stubborn flanks can improve how you feel about yourself. This procedure may also fill you with a sense of accomplishment if you completed a weight loss transformation, as now your results will be much more apparent.
  • Tailored Treatment Plans: Dr. Omidi designs each treatment plan during your consultation to ensure he selects the most effective approach for your needs.

Candidates

You may be an ideal candidate for a flankplasty if you have recently undergone a significant weight fluctuation that has left you with loose, hanging, and inelastic skin around your hips and flanks. This procedure is ideal if you were recently pregnant or underwent a weight transformation, but are now at a stable and maintainable weight.

To qualify for your procedure, you will need to be in good general health and hold realistic expectations for your procedure. You should also be nonsmoking or willing to quit using nicotine. Dr. Omidi will determine your candidacy for a flankplasty once he meets with you in-person.

Personal Consultation

Your journey towards a more defined figure begins with a consultation at our Beverly Hills office. During this consultation, Dr. Omidi will discuss your treatment, explaining what a flankplasty entails, its benefits, and its limitations. He will assess your medical history, personal concerns, and desired outcomes. He will also perform a physical examination to evaluate the condition and quality of your skin.

Preparation

After scheduling your flankplasty, you will need to make several preparations to ensure you are ready. To help you, Dr. Omidi will provide a set of detailed preoperative instructions. He may direct you to:

  • Manage Certain Medications: Please refrain from taking any medications or supplements that may thin your blood. These typically include ibuprofen or aspirin.
  • Prepare Transportation: Dr. Omidi uses general anesthesia during the procedure, which means you will be unable to drive yourself home. We ask that you arrange for a trusted friend or family member to pick you up when Dr. Omidi releases you.
  • Arrange Time Away: You will need to take time away from your responsibilities and commitments to focus on your recovery.
  • Fill Your Prescriptions: We advise you to pick up any medications in advance so that you have them ready for when you need them.
  • Cease Any Substance Use: Please refrain from any nicotine or alcohol consumption in the weeks leading up to your procedure, and maintain your abstinence until you have made a full recovery. These substances can increase your risk of developing complications during and after the procedure.

Procedure

Dr. Omidi performs flankplasty procedures at his surgical center. He typically takes between two and four hours to perform the procedure, but yours will vary in duration depending on its extent and complexity. You will receive general anesthesia at the beginning of your procedure to ensure you are comfortably asleep throughout it.

Dr. Omidi will place an incision near your flanks that extends horizontally. The length of the incision may vary depending on the amount of skin Dr. Omidi is removing. He will predetermine this during your consultation, so you understand what to expect. Dr. Omidi will proceed to remove any excess skin and tissue in the area. If he finds a significant amount of fat, he may also perform liposuction. (1)

Once Dr. Omidi sculpts your desired appearance, he will carefully close each incision before transporting you to our recovery suite to rest.

Recovery

After your flankplasty, you will need to take some time away from your responsibilities and commitments to focus on your recovery. You will be able to return to your routine after resting for approximately one to two weeks. However, you will need to refrain from any strenuous tasks until Dr. Omidi clears you to return.

Initially, you may experience some swelling, bruising, and discomfort around the treated areas. These effects will gradually subside on their own, but you may also manage them using a cold compress, prescribed medications, and plenty of rest. Dr. Omidi may ask you to wear a compression garment throughout your recovery. This is a specialized garment that prevents further swelling and maintains your new curves. Dr. Omidi will also ask you to return for follow-up appointments as you heal to ensure your results are developing as expected. Dr. Omidi will provide any additional instructions during your consultation.

Results

You may be able to notice immediate improvements in the treated areas, but the full results will become more apparent once any swelling subsides. The results of your procedure can vary depending on your exact corrections, but you can generally expect smoother and tighter skin, a more toned and slender silhouette, as well as more defined contours.

The results of a flankplasty are long-lasting, with many of Dr. Omidi’s patients experiencing their enhancements for years. However, you will need to maintain a stable weight and a healthy lifestyle, as fluctuations may alter your appearance.

Cost of Flankplasty in Los Angeles

Once Dr. Omidi has met with you to discuss each of these details, he will give you a comprehensive cost estimate for your procedure. Dr. Omidi additionally offers financing for anyone who qualifies.
